JOURNEY INTO THE UNKNOWN

PART 2: WILL CURIOSITY KILL THE CAT?

Salam and hi,

So sorry I didn't update this blog last night. Was caught up in a few conversations with clients. So here I am early in the morning, writing down my thoughts.

I had a few friends congratulating me over last few days. Why? Well.. they seemed to think that TDT is on the verge of success... hmmm..I never thought of that. I always thought that TDT is not there yet. Maybe I should change my views... maybe I should start measuring incremental success. But in any case, all praise should go to Almighty Allah, Alhamdulillah...

Azman hard at work. I believe he's got what it takes to make it in this industry.

Maybe this thing has everything to do with that quote 'where you are today depended on what you did 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 years ago or maybe even less than that'. You believe that? I do. So maybe where TDT is today was based on what I did a few months back.. or years ago.. hmmm   I should reflect on that...

REFLECTIONS...

Assalamualaikum and hi,

Are you feeling better today? Did anyone close to you hurt your feelings? We feel hurt right? Well, first instinct would be to blame everyone involved that caused this hurt but.... let's reflect.

In our journey to get to where we are today...have we ever done the same thing that hurt others, the way we are being hurt today? Maybe we've forgotten, maybe we didn't realize..but that could be the very reason we are tested today. Have we asked for forgiveness?

It's something that I always try to remind myself when something hurtful happens to me. It's a cleansing process that we go through before our journey ends. Which means that I too, on this day of Barakah, a Friday, would like to ask for your forgiveness, from the bottom of my heart, if I had ever done anything to hurt your feelings, whether intentionally or not. I blame my ignorance and stupidity during those years of growing up. Now, well into my forties, I learned so many things along the way.... but no regrets. It's all a process, both for you and for me.

On to a more cheerful note :)

We had our first ever Mooncake Class with Annis Suhaiza earlier this week. Awesome!! I've never had a Mooncake ever in my life and this is a first for me :)...delicious and so easy to make. It could well be a Bestsellers for Bakers out there.. what with demand for Halal Food Products are on the rise.

JOURNEY INTO THE UNKNOWN

PART 1 : FIGHTING OFF THOSE DEMONS CALLED COMFORT ZONE.

Azman's Cake. See how close together those
Extensions are on the lowest tier? It made him puked
at the end of the day...but..beautiful ain't it?
I salute him.
 Assalamualaikum and hi dear readers,

How is everyone this week? Good? Alhamdulillah…. Not so good? Take it easy and think of it as a practice to make you a better person in areas you’re lacking. So in the end everything will be good.

When I go through a bad situation, I’ll cry it out and pray and then tell myself that come tomorrow, everything will be better coz the rule of the universe (sunnatullah) dictates that nothing ever stays the same.

So anyways, we had a repeat of Royal Icing Class last week. Wow! I tell you respect them all, Kak Aida from Tokyo, Azman the IT guy, Zac who owned her own cake business in Bt Pahat, Cake B'licious and Ziqah of Scrummy Cakes who makes beautiful cakes. They really are a bunch of determined lot.

Kak Aida Shibuya Tokyo or Kak Zuraidah currently lives in Japan with her Husband. She's back here to pre-organise her son's wedding function next year and she took the opportunity to attend my classes, twice, despite the daily drive to and fro Enstek. Actually, with her husband's position, she doesn't have to work for anything..but! That's it! What drove her through that?

Royal Icing Class - Gazebo & Swan

 Salam and hi,

Quick update on our recent class - Royal Icing. It was supposed to be attended by 4 students but 2 couldn't make we're left with only 2. But what a blessing it was. I had design a slightly different module than our last Royal Icing Class and it was successfully transferred into reality by my two awesome students - Daalia Abdul of Lea Oven and Sapiyah Hassan, a loyal follower of TDT's classes.

Have a look :)

Food Styling & Photography and Cake Design Class

Salam and Hi dearests,

What a busy few days it has been for me. Learning and teaching both :) Busy-ness started last Wednesday, preparing for Saturday and Monday Class.

For the past 2 days we had an awesome time in TDT doing the Shabby Chic inspired Cake Design Class. This class was attended by Kak Aida, Kak Rose, Zac & Azman. It was a mix of experience & not so experience bunch which to me was great, coz we get to share and impart knowledge.

Anyways, thank you all for coming. I had a great time and I hope you all did too :)

Well, we have evidence of what they'd done for the past 2 days...

Zac from Bt Pahat. Sangat tekun... good job Zac!

Durian Crepes, Various Crepes and Crunchy Cream Puff

Bismillahirramanirrahim
Assalamualaikum and hi all you lovely readers :)

We started of November 2012 with a Bang! from the durian smell that is LOL! What a phenomenon. Durian Crepe, though had been around for a while, was made famous when Zalina Yahaya got her Hubby to tapau a few from Midvalley for testing. From then on, a durian storm hit all over Malaysia and I suspect the neighboring country too LOL! It's a Craze that had all the durian sellers puzzled.

Zalina nailed this one nicely. Everyone loved the taste and textured and the affordability and Bakers love it coz it's so easy to make. Good JOB Zalina. You've got yourself a permanent spot in TDT :)...hang neeehhh! Everyone was ecstatic and obviously eager for the class. They hung on to every word that came out of Zalina's lip like they were gold bars..hahahaha...awesome!

In case you haven't seen it, here's how it looks like. And for the taste, hmmm...you'll just have to order some from us. I wish you can taste it here. It doesn't have the overpowering smell of a durian, instead it smells nice, very inviting. The skin texture, unlike the usual lempeng or crepe, it's amazingly thin that you can see the color of your skin underneath it, soft yet very sturdy, much like a durian skin itself and gentle on the palate. Not overpowering at all. And it complements the insides texture perfectly well. The fillings taste a bit like durian ice-cream when eaten cold and yet has no overpowering aftertaste or stinging strong smell of a durian. Well, you'll just have to order some laaa... sms us ya. RM10 for a pack of 6.
The infamous Durian Crepe (pronounced khrepp not krip hahaha...we had a French teacher in our class last week)
Selling price is RM10 for a pack of 6 pieces
Next we did an awesomely nice French Vanilla Mille Crepe. I personally love this one though it can be highly detrimental to my health and waistline! I've seen this around the cafes but because of I have this thing about eating only from the source that I know, I've never eaten them before. But I can imagine the taste coz I've made crepes before. But to actually put some cold ones into your mouth...hmmm.. nuff said!

I love the rustic unpretentious look of this particular dessert. It so homey and yet exudes sophistication about it. And the taste... absolutely cloud 9 for me.

French Vanilla Mille Crepe. About 9" with 20 layers. Selling price would be RM105.

French Vanilla Mille Crepe Slices - absolutely addictive

Next we did Tiramisu Mille Crepe, a chocolate variation from the Vanilla Mille crepes. You can have insanely loads of variety of Mille Crepes. Just have to be creative...
Tiramisu Mille Crepe RM110 for a 9" 20 layer.
And the last one, another favorite of mine, Crunchy Japanese Creampuff. It looks the same as its cousin the Creampuff, only this one is much better coz it's not as soft or lembik like the Creampuff because of the crunchy topping. Awesome!
Crunchy Japanese Creampuff
There you go... what an insanely awesome class! Tq Zalina Yahaya for coming all the way from Seremban. Loads of thanks also to you lovely people who, instead of countless reminder not to come before 10.30am, still managed to wriggle your way into TDT early( like 9.30am!) with excuses like 'I need to use the ladies pleassseeeee'. That's it! Next time I'll go in through the back door hahahaha!

So I'll see you soon in our next few class.
